DSCN7538 150x150 Making the Choice to Serve: Military Life for Us

When I said “I do” four years ago, I never thought that I would be living back at home with my mother and my young son. No, I’m not divorced; I’m a military wife.

birthdayboy 300x300 Dont Stress! Its A Birthday PartyI have a confession to make. My children are at ages where they really aren’t interested in having a traditional birthday party anymore. That’s not actually the confession. The confession part is that I am okay with this.

A birthday party, although a fun way to mark the occasion of your child turning one year older, can be very stressful to plan, which is silly because it’s a kids birthday party, and planning it should be like how you want the party itself, the very essence of fun.

Family October 2012 047 copy 300x198 Happy Mothers day from a dad...

As a man who arrived late when God was dishing out patience, emotion, empathy and  sensitivity (I was fighting my way to the front of the queue for fun, humor and well that’s about it) I consider it my obligation to wish all the mothers reading this a very happy mother’s day.

bucket A Bucket List for your Summer 2013

2013 Summer Bucket List

Crazy as it may seem, we are more inclined to do something, if we write it down.  Using this principle I set out to make our summers full of “doing”.  Since my children were very little we have had a summer bucket list.

I have spent nearly 10 years of my life studying philosophy: looking at what it is that makes us the people we are. I also work in a toy shop. As a result of both of these things my views on parenting can sometimes have an unusual slant.

From when they are very young (too young perhaps to notice that anything is going on) we take our kids along to a variety of social events, baby singing groups, baby yoga, mummy and baby, mummy and toddler, the list goes on

Islands Feb 2013 055 300x198 Work / Parenting Conundrum, Appreciate them Now.

There are countless stories of people who survived great odds.  People who stared death in the face and lived, those who have the most amazing stories to tell their grandchildren one day. The one common thing that is evident from all these survival stories is the fact that they all come back saying how much they appreciate life, family and all the rest of it.

A refrigerator would make my car perfect....

When my kids were younger all I wanted was for someone to remove the front seat of my mini-van and replace it with a small refrigerator.  How much time and money would that save?  Let’s face it, as soon as you start driving somewhere, your kids are either hungry or need to go to the bathroom!  (And no, I don’t want a toilet installed.)

MP900402582 150x150 The Value of Rest and Why Its Important

I’m learning why rest is important.  We recently went on vacation. While the rest was nice, part of me would’ve rather been at home doing work on my week off work.  But I’m learning the value of rest.  In today’s world, being a “busy mom” is a common experience, feeling stretched and strapped and pulled in all directions no matter what season we are in.

Busy Mom = Good Mom………Busy mom = Worn-Out Mom.

MP900448580 1 150x150 Being Stretched and Stressed: I Cant Do It AllI’ve been both a stay-at-home mom and a working mom.  When I was at home full-time with young children, there were days I felt stretched and stressed.  Ten years ago, I began working full-time as a high school history teacher.  I had to develop a new routine for our family of six, balancing home, school, grading papers, and carpooling kids to games and practices.  We lived at a hectic page.   I had 180 students to prepare for each day.  I was stretched to the limit.

trampoline 150x150 My children want to play with me

I have recently started a business from home. It has been quite the hassle. I thought it would be simple, but it isn’t. Since it is photography, I have to do a lot of work on my computer. I didn’t think it was a problem until recently. It was the weekend and I thought I could catch up on a lot of work.
